Innovative EPC Indicator

Comfort

Adequate levels of indoor air quality (IAQ), thermal comfort, lighting and acoustics in buildings are among the most important benefits and drivers especially for renovation, as they lead to improved health and comfort of the occupants. However, they are not currently covered by EPCs: this indicator allows to assess the levels of comfort in terms of Indoor Environmental Quality for a given building through reliable and evidence-based inputs.

X-tendo develops an assessment approach for calculation of Asset and Operational comfort rating, that is tested in buildings, and consists of a simplified checklist of systems and materials, measurements of temperature, relative humidity and CO2-concentrations and survey of occupants’ perception on aspects such as thermal comfort, indoor air quality, visual comfort and acoustics.

  • Introductory report

    Brief report giving an overall evaluation of the feature and describing the basic concept, the methods behind, existing good practices and how to implement it.

  • User guide and calculation tool of the CORP

    This material constitute the Operational Rating Procedure (CORP) assessment tools and is developed to assist assessors to determine the comfort rating of a specific building using a representative space. The user guide provides a list of the necessary requirements that need to be assessed in order to come up with a score for the evaluation of the four indicators of the building that is under assessment. The user-guide lists the required assessment protocol for each parameter within specified criteria of thermal comfort, indoor air quality, visual comfort and acoustic comfort indicators.

  • User guide and calculation tool of the CARP

    This material constitute the Asset Rating Procedure (CARP) assessment tools and assist assessors to determine the comfort rating of a specific building using a representative space. It provides a list of the necessary requirements that need to be assessed in order to come up with a score for the evaluation of the four indicators (thermal comfort, indoor air quality, visual comfort and acoustic comfort) of the building that is under assessment. The assessment is done through visual inspection and filling in of specific checklists and it requires the assessor to walk through the building.

  • Concrete implementation of new energy performance certificates features: testing and results in nine countries

    This report provides the summary of the outcomes of the testing activities for each of the 10 features in one or several implementing countries. This is mainly based on the analysis of the evaluation questionnaires filled out by the implementing partners, but also on the content of the testing results reports. The questionnaires hereby consist of general questions along the testing steps, questions on testing time and related costs, an evaluation against defined cross-cutting criteria (Quality and Reliability, User-friendliness, Economic feasibility, and Consistency with ISO/CEN standards) and final thoughts.

  • Implementation guideline and replicability potential of the innovative feature for the next generation EPCs

    This report brings together the outputs of the evaluation of the test projects alongside the insight from end-users and stakeholders. It includes estimations of (1) the barriers and drivers for the wide uptake of the feature, (2) the effects of the wider implementation of the developed innovative feature of EPCs in Europe and (3) the necessary next steps in order to implement the innovative feature in the certification schemes around Europe.
